29th Day Bonus: Is That All You’ve Got?

The sale is massive; the store is almost giving away its products. 50% off! 60% off! 70% off! But the customer is still unsatisfied. Pointing out an item that is nearly a quarter of its original price, she turns to the owner. “Is that all you’ve got?”

The bully pound away at the small child, harassing him in front of the others and demanding he get what he wants out of the kid. The child knows exactly who is approaching the bully from behind and is no longer intimidated by the bully’s threats. The child stands tall as the bully is pulled away, shouting, “Is that all you’ve got?”

The parents have careful chosen gifts for their child to mark this special occasion. Having wrapped them with care and hidden their joy at his impending delight, the family finally arrives at the day moment of celebration. Five minutes into this special moment, the presents are open and paper is strewn about the room. The child views his surrounding selections, then asks his parents, “Is that all you’ve got?”

The young man has scrimped and saved for seemingly ages to afford a prized possession: a ring for his beloved. He prepares a lavish evening full of romantic surprises to present it to her with his heartfelt confessions of love and promises of a lifetime of faithful companionship. As he bares his heart to her and bends down on one knee, she sighs hesitantly, “Is that all you’ve got?”

Jesus, along with the stripes and the beatings, allows the sins of all humanity to pile upon him, becoming forsaken and descending into hell. As Satan gloats over the victory that thinks is finally assured, Jesus rises up and snatches the keys and control of death and hell away from him. “Is that all you’ve got?”

The Godhead have pulled off the miraculous — restoring a fallen and self-destructing species through the death and resurrection of the Son. They have given us complete and total victory and the position of rulers in equal standing with the Son when we accept Him. We in turn look at our lives here on the earth and say to the Father, “Is that all you’ve got?”
